Our Home

Since 2002, American Flatbread has two bakeries in Vermont, located on either side of our rolling, old Green Mountains. In the Mad River Valley, American Flatbread makes its home at Lareau Farm in Waitsfield, one of the original farms settled in Waitsfield at the end of the 18th century. Just over the Appalachian Gap, American Flatbread in Middlebury is part of the thriving business community in the historic Marble Works district, an old marble quarry now functioning as a beautiful shopping and business center in town. Lucky us, Vermont is home to world-class skiing, wonderful country inns and restaurants, scenic hiking, biking and horseback riding trails, golf, tennis, live theatre, art galleries, wildlife habitat, working farms, extensive forests that blanket the central high peaks of the Green Mountains, and our beloved lakes and rivers.

From the very beginning, one of our primary tenets has been to work in conscious relationship with the community. This relationship has taken many forms over the years including oven building and baking with local elementary schools, welcoming students and interested parties into our factory for teaching purposes, community art projects, providing medicine bread for hospitalized children, offering free food to all ill and injured community members, and participating in events that benefit local food relief, and environmental and educational organizations.
