Tuscarora Organic Growers Co-op -Juniata River Valley, PA
Tuscarora Organic Growers (TOG) took root in 1988 when a group of neighboring organic fruit and vegetable farmers discussed the possibility of joining forces in the marketing of their products. By working together, they could coordinate crop production to complement one another rather than compete. And they could enjoy economies of scale in shipping and selling. The cooperative form of business fit the farmers’ needs, allowing ownership and market access to be divided fairly and decisions to be made jointly.
Cherry Glen Farm - Boyds, MD
Unique to this area, our 58 acre farm is located in Boyds, Mayland, within the Montgomery County Agriculture Reserve. Our products are 100% American, 100% Maryland, and 100% Cherry Glen farm. All of the the milk that goes into making our fines cheese comes from our many Toggenburg and Alpine Dairy goats. It is very difficult to do both goats and goat cheese. Being a true farmstead and “doing it all” gives us the hightest level of control - which we believe is important for the integrity of our products.
Steve Baker - Sausage, Bacon, Ham, BBQ Sauce(WV)
Baker has been raising hogs for about 33 years at Baker Farms. The “small, family farm” has about 100 producing sows.”We’re very, very small compared to the big guys,” he said. Agriculture is “very, very important” to the county’s economy, Baker said, and when local farms are successful “the money stays local, so it does wonders for a local economy.”
